Identity theft is when someone uses your details without your permission to obtain goods or services. Zip takes many steps to prevent this happening to our customers.
If you are a victim of identify fraud, you probably won’t realise until a bill arrives for something you didn’t buy, or you experience problems with your own credit rating.
If you think someone has unlawfully created a Zip account using your details, please:
- Report it to the police and ask for a crime reference report
- Let us know what’s happened, and include the crime reference report in the information you give us
- Report your case to Action Fraud, the national fraud and internet crime reporting centre. They’ll advise on the steps you need to take and any other organisations you should contact
You may also want to check your credit report and notify them in case a correction is required (you can obtain this by doing an internet search for ‘credit report’ – and visiting one of the known credit agencies).
